A big thank you for taking part in Cumnor Cricket Club's NatWest CricketForce 2012 event. Glorious sunshine saw 55 different members, helpers, sponsors and supporters give their time and talents to help transform our clubhouse and grounds into something much smarter and almost ready for the season to come. With some people coming on both days, we had the equivalent of more than 70 pairs of hands unleashed over the weekend -and what a difference it's made.

Cumnor sink Shipton in the opening round of the National Village Knockout.

Season finally got underway in fantastic style with a first xi victory at premier league side shipton under wychwood

Cumnor  made 179. Having been 6-2  Matt Lake steadied the ship before slumping to 57-6. A brilliant  partnership of 60+ between Carl
Thompson (85no) and Rob Lawrence (15) ensured we  recovered to a very competitive  179.

Shipton lost their 1st wicket in the 2nd overand then lost the dangerous Simon Hole in the third to a Spectacular catch by Tony Munsey at slip. We pressed hard in the field and good bowling from everyone including man of the match Carl Thompson meant Shipton were bowled out for 102.

Next round AT HOME , May 27th vs Cropredy , for a place in the semi final on June 3rd against Horspath or Oxford Downs, with the regional final on June 17th.

Semi final and Final will be at home.

Development Plan gets the go ahead:

This is part of a £75,000 investment project which will make Cumnor the ideal place to learn and play cricket:. A new triple bay practice area, new all weather match pitch, new mowers, scoreboards and lots more. Funding has come from Sport England, Lords Taverners, ECB, Cumnor Parish Council along with our advertisers and sponsors.

 Club Newsletter: April 2012:
New Practice area is ready to go- and it looks sensational !!

With the new season less than a month away, Cumnor cricket club are preparing for a return to the field of play with renewed optimism. By the time the umpires call 'play' for the first time on 21 April, the club will be boasting new state-of-the-art training facilities, as well as celebrating the return of a talismanic all-rounder, a spruced up clubhouse...
and a new mower!

Visitors to Park Field will have noticed that the old nets have been ripped out to be replaced by a much larger cage which will eventually house the new three-lane net, partly funded by an Olympic legacy grant from Sport England. Now the training facilities at Cumnor will match the standard of the playing staff - both adult and junior.

The new nets are not the only investment that will be on
view come April. A new ride-on mower has already been purchased to replace the museum piece that has bravely served the club for the past few years, while a new all-weather wicket will soon also be in place.

Other acquisitions are some new covers, condemning the
Heath Robinson version currently being used to the scrap yard, and a new electronic scoreboard. There are some at the club who will mourn the demise of the 1930s handle-operated scoreboard that has totted up the runs up until now, but the club has decided that it's time to drag itself into the 21st Century.

Indeed, the club is now ahead of schedule: many of the most pressing objectives it set itself in the first phase of its three-year development plan will be achieved in the first year, thanks to the Sport England grant, an interest-free loan from the ECB, grants from Lord's Taverners and Cumnor Parish Council, and a more businesslike approach to managing its finances. This includes offering attractive packages for sponsors and advertisers who might like to be associated with such a thriving club.

On the field, the club has recruited a number of promising players to bolster the first and second XIs and to give the captains a selection headache. The acquisition that will strike a sentimental chord for many at Cumnor is Ali Morteza, the Afghan all-rounder who has served the club with distinction in the past.

Ali, whose family members were murdered by the Taliban
and who now has leave to remain in the UK, has returned to Oxford from Nottingham with a determination to play for the club that supported him through his battles with the Home Office.

And what of the spruced-up clubhouse? On the weekend of 31 March and 1 April, Cumnor CC is taking part in the NatWest CricketForce weekend, which helps members and
local communities get their clubs ready for the coming season.

With support from Build Centre, players will be donning the marigolds as they give the bar a thorough clean, redecorate the changing rooms, trim the hedges and pull up weeds, erect the new scoreboard and sightscreens and generally make the ground look as welcoming as possible.

The club will be unrecognisable - apart, of course, from
the quality of cricket being played!
